Caring For Your New Soy Wax Candle
Congratulations on your purchase and thank you for choosing WiCK'D YYC as your provider of a beautiful new candle. Possibly the best feature in your home so far. By choosing a candle from us, you are not only getting a great, hand made product. You are also helping the environment through choosing reused, previously loved items as a vessel for your new candle.
To ensure you have the best experience with your candle, making it long lasting and full fragranced, please read and follow the following information. And, like, actually read it. I am not typing this for nothing.
Creating A Good Burn Memory
Natural Soy Wax can be a bit difficult, like a stubborn aunt. It has what they call a "burn memory", meaning it will remember what you did to it the previous time you lit it. So. When you light your Soy Wax Candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt all the way to the sides of the container. Your first burn should last long enough to melt the wax to the edges which will prevent tunnelling. By allowing all of the wax to melt, it will keep wax from remaining along the sides of the container. Making it look more beautiful and of course making it way easier to clean out when you candle is done so you can use the vessel for something else!
Trim Your Wick
I'm not talking manscaping... but it is along the same lines. You have to maintain your wick. I know, I know. You didn't buy a candle to have to maintain it. But news flash, all good things require maintenance in some way. Soy wax does not burn as hot as paraffin wax, so soy wax candles require a thicker wick, which does not burn 100% and needs to be trimmed regularly. Always trim your wick to about 1/4" or 6-8mm before you re-light your candle.

This will ensure a long lasting candle, minimize soot and remove any mushrooming of the wick left from the previous burn. Just make sure you do not over trim your wick as you may have difficulties relighting your candle. If you do not trim the wick regularly, if you leave the candle where there is a draft or you leave it to burn too long you may get a "mushroom" of carbon on the end of the wick. This can cause soot to collect on the inside of the container.

If that does happen, put out your candle, wait for it to cool down (don't be a hero) and wipe off the carbon marks on your vessel with a damp cloth. You can then re-light your candle and pretend it never happened!
It's Not Always About Looks
Just remember the candles are hand poured. Sometimes while we drink wine. It happens. Don't judge us! The main thing to remember is that they are not mass produced. These are not from a factory. You are getting something that we have worked hard to produce. However with that, not every candle is going to be the same (duh) and not every candle is going to be perfect.
Because we use natural soy wax, sometimes you might see darker patches or even wet spots in your vessel. This is not an issue, it is just simply a spot or blemish where the was has not adhered to the glass or side of the vessel. It does not affect your candle in any way. Remember, Hand Made.
The top of the candle may also appear slightly uneven, and not smooth and perfect. This is also a sign that it is actually natural soy wax and again, has been hand poured. By us. Not a machine.
Please do not leave your candle in direct sunlight. This will cause it to turn a not so pleasing yellow colour. It does not affect your candle in any way. It's just ugly. Plain and simple. And nobody wants an ugly candle...
